By participating in the green bin program, you’re now part of a cycle that helps feed the land with nutrients from your household organic waste. Instead of rotting in a landfill, your apple cores and carrot tops will help grow more apples and more carrots -- Talk about recycle and reuse!

Ottawa’s green bin contents will get shipped to a local facility to be processed into compost. Composting on this scale is a high-tech endeavour that takes up to 60 days to complete. Here’s how it works:
